Crook County bashed Madras and Estacada in their final week of Tri-Valley Conference action, setting up a big game against league-leading Gladstone at home Friday.
But Friday, Gladstone’s flame-thrower Ashlynne Franssen was tough to hit and the Cowgirls lost 6-1. The loss put Crook County at 8-7 in league, tied with Estacada for third.
Estacada and Crook County met in Prineville Monday, May 12, and it was all Cowgirls as they won 18-1.
The lone Ranger run was a second inning homer from Chloe Cooper. Outside of that, Cowgirl pitcher Madisyn Hardman was outstanding, allowing just two other hits in four innings and the Cowgirls ended this via the 15-run rule in the fourth inning.
After Cooper’s homer made it 1-1, the Cowgirls rocked for six runs in the bottom of the second, four more in the third, then got the five to end it in the fourth.
Kendall Martinez and Chloe McKenzie each got three hits on the day. Martinez doubled and McKenzie and Alyson Ware tripled. The biggest hit of the night was from Kya Mozingo, a home run.
On Wednesday, May 14, the Cowgirls hosted Madras, and Hardman was near perfect in the circle, allowing just one Buffalo hit during the 10-0 five-inning Cowgirl win.
One and nine hitters Martinez and Azsmita Pennington each got three hits and scored three runs to lead the Cowgirl offense. Martinez, Lindsey Adkins and McKenzie each had a pair of RBI. Hardman had just two strikeouts but zero walks.
The Cowgirls punched across two runs in the first, single runs in the second and third, then blew it open with four in the fourth to lead 8-0. They got two more in the bottom of the fifth to end in via the 10-run rule.
Coach Shalane Campbell said that the squad will find out its post-season future on Monday, May 19.
