Cowboys battle
District champion Covarrubias got a bye in the first round then survived a bad first set to beat Weston-McEwen’s Trysten Burns 4-6, 6-1, 6-0. Waiting in the quarters, though, was the No. 2 seed from Calin Gable, Zareh Gonzalvo. He was too much to handle and Covarrubias fell 6-0, 6-0.
